Pros Small footprint and weight. Sturdy, super silent, yet great air flow. High effiency power supply enough for an i7-2600. Great tool-less design. Ton of accessories.
Cons Some may consider it a bit expensive. More air flow, more noise, please.
Summary Box dimension (roughly) : 60x30x55 CM. With the hardware mentioned below it roughly weights 30 pounds.
Once again, an amazing chassis from Supermicro (PMed to $93.34 ). The build quality is second to none, the footprint and weight get as small as it can possibly be. All accessories you could possibly need are included. Even the power cord feels sturdy.
I paired this chassis with a desktop grade ASUS motherboard (P8H67-M Pro), 2*4GB of memory (G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3-1333), 2*1TB Caviar Black hard drives and a Core i7-2600 processor. As such, yes, Supermicro's super efficient power supply is more than enough for such a build (ran Prime95 for roughly 12 hours).
Included power supply connectors : 4*SATA power cables, 2*Molex 4-pin power cables, 1*4-pin (FOUR PINS) ATX power cable, 1*24-pin power cable (non 20+4) and 2 other connectors that looks like 4-pin fan female connectors. As such, you get all connectors you'd need to plug in four hard drives but, beware, unlike what Supermicro advertises, the power supply has a unique 4-pin ATX power connector (not a 4+4 pins). Most motherboards (including the P8H67-M Pro) supports only plugging in the 4 pins, but to be safe, you may want to add a "nGear 4 Pin P4 Power to 8 Pin Epc Power Adapter Cable" (PM to $1.71).
The rotating hard drives bay is quite handy. Not only does it really ease up the replacement of hard drives, but it makes assembly just way easier as the chassis is very cramped.
Supermicro is true to word, the included fan is indeed really, really silent. All together, it is quieter than my Noctua's PC. And it does push a fair amount of air. I got to say that I'd like to see Supermicro releasing a version with a slightly louder, yet more powerful fan. This one is just uselessly silent, even if you don't plan to throw it in a datacenter.
N.B.1 : Raising nuts for the motherboard are useless for most boards. N.B.2 : The included ty-raps taht may be glued to the chassis aren't long enough to accommodate a lot of cables. This being said, cable management is very, very though even though Supermicro includes all necessary accessories. N.B.3 : The tool-less design is a huge success. Note that they even include screws to screw in the hard drives to secure them, in case you got to ship the server (tool-less hard drive cages are known to fall apart during shipment). N.B.4 : On a non-Supermicro motherboard, I can't seem to be able to have the front USB connectors and the front LEDs to work! N.B.5 : Supermicro uses a proprietary connector for the motherboard connections (Power_SW, Reset...). The conversion cable is included.
